INDEPENDENT ENERGY ADVISORY · TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT
Your next energy decision. A clearer view of risk.
ExplorationAI is an independent technical and commercial advisory practice led by Heath Nevels. We help energy teams assess technologies, evaluate project risks, and define practical next steps across oil and gas, geothermal, and CCUS. AI supports our research and analysis; experienced engineering judgment guides our recommendations.
Start with the question in front of you. We shape a focused engagement around the evidence and output you need.
TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT
Does it work? Will it work here?
A promising result is a starting point. Understand the operating conditions, evidence quality, integration needs, and path to scale before deciding what comes next.
Scoped advisory and workflow pilots for energy research, technical review, and decision support. We use AI-assisted analysis with source traceability and human review, tailored to the question and available evidence.
Beyond the core: Waste to energy and other emerging energy technologies, assessed with the same attention to evidence, readiness, and practical application. Explore W2E questions ↗
03 / THE APPROACH
Human expertise. AI at the table.
Our workflow brings technical judgment and AI-enabled research, synthesis, and scenario exploration together. Sources, assumptions, and uncertainties remain visible, with Heath accountable for client recommendations.
01
Frame the decision
Start with the decision, the people making it, and the evidence they need.
02
Challenge the assumptions
Separate what is known from what is inferred. Make uncertainty visible and useful.
03
Define the next step
Translate the findings into practical priorities, with expert accountability for the recommendation.
A LOOK AT THE WORK / ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE
A better question can change the next step.
This fictional technology example shows how we frame a decision. It is not a client case study or a completed EAI assessment.
EXPLORATIONAI / DECISION NOTEILLUSTRATIVE
Advance to a field pilot?
The claim
A new process could lower energy use.
The evidence
Bench results under controlled conditions. Field performance remains untested.
The critical uncertainty
Does the benefit persist under variable feed conditions and realistic operating loads?
The next step
Define a representative test, a measurement baseline, and explicit pass/fail criteria before scaling.
Pressure-test an opportunity in five questions. See where confidence has support and where the next question could change your decision.

Engineering depth. Business perspective.
Heath F. Nevels
Founder, ExplorationAI
Heath brings more than 30 years of experience across engineering, technology development, carbon capture and storage, geothermal energy, and technical due diligence.
His background includes more than two decades with Shell, followed by PANO Research and Engineering, and experience with DNV and GHD. That journey spans technical work, leadership, and advisory responsibilities.
ExplorationAI brings that experience into focused advisory work, connecting subsurface and well engineering with technology readiness, execution requirements, and commercial decision-making.
Kathy is the AI counterpart in EAI’s working team. Her role spans research synthesis, structured challenge of assumptions, scenario development, and communication. Working with Heath, she helps turn scattered evidence into questions, options, and decision-ready analysis.
Kathy is an AI persona represented by an illustrated avatar. Her Chief AI Officer title describes her role in EAI’s workflow. Heath retains responsibility for professional judgment, client relationships, and business commitments.
